How to Wash and Care for Your Home Reserve Sectional

How to Wash and Care for Your Home Reserve Sectional

Home Reserve covers come off for cleaning, and Essentials and Performance+ covers go in a standard home washing machine. Wash them on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent and hang to dry until just slightly damp; we don't recommend using a dryer. Put covers back on while slightly damp for the smoothest fit. Exclusive fabrics aren't machine washable. For quick spills on any fabric, blot right away and spot clean with a damp cloth or an upholstery cleaner like Folex or Emergency Stain Rescue. If a cover ever wears out, you can replace just that one piece by emailing support@homereserve.com.

How to wash your Essentials and Performance+ covers

  1. Take the covers off. Remove the cushion covers and frame fabrics you want to wash. (These steps are for Essentials and Performance+ fabrics only; Exclusive fabrics aren't machine washable.)
  2. Get them ready. Turn covers inside out. Shake off crumbs, pet hair and loose debris first.
  3. Load the washer. Wash Home Reserve covers separately from clothing or other laundry. Don't overfill the machine, so covers can move freely and rinse clean.
  4. Choose the settings. Use a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent (no bleach).
  5. Keep the color even. If one cover gets washed much more often than its neighbors (the favorite seat, say), wash the covers next to it now and then too, so the sectional keeps a matching look.

Drying your covers

Air dry your covers. We don't recommend putting Home Reserve covers in the dryer: heat can shrink the fabric and change the snug, tailored fit each cover is cut and sewn for.

  • Hang covers to dry, over a drying rack or a line, until they're just slightly damp.
  • Keep them out of direct sun to protect the color.
  • Most covers dry in about 2 hours.

Putting covers back on

Each Home Reserve cover is cut and sewn for a tight fit, so it takes a little finesse to get it back on smoothly. Covers go back on most easily while still slightly damp, when the fabric has a bit more give.

Our Video Tips for Fabrics show each step: front frame fabric, back frame fabric, back cushion, arms, seat cushion and ottoman. Smooth each piece from the center out, and line up the seams with the edges of the cushion or frame.

Spot cleaning and everyday messes

Not every spill needs a full wash. For small messes:

  • Spills: Blot (don't rub) with a clean cloth as soon as possible. Performance+ fabrics are stain-resistant, which gives you a little extra time, but quick blotting helps most.
  • Light stains: Dab with a damp cloth and an upholstery cleaner such as Folex or Emergency Stain Rescue, then blot dry.
  • Pet hair: Use a lint roller, a damp washcloth or a vacuum upholstery attachment.
  • Crumbs and dust: Vacuum with an upholstery attachment, including under the seat cushions and inside the storage compartments.
  • Tougher stains: Take the cover off and machine wash it using the steps above.

Care by fabric collection

Essentials and Performance+ covers are machine washable. Exclusive fabrics are not machine washable; for spills, follow the spot cleaning steps above, or contact our support team for care guidance.

Cushions, inserts and frames

  • Foam seat cushions: Don't machine wash the foam. Spot clean it if needed and let it air dry fully before putting the cover back on.
  • Back pillows and fiber fill: Don't machine wash the back pillows or fiber fill. Fluff them regularly to keep their shape.
  • Frames and storage compartments: Wipe with a damp cloth and let dry. Vacuum the storage compartments now and then. Storage liners are wipeable; they are not machine washable.
  • Rotate and flip: Flip and rotate seat cushions every few weeks so they wear evenly.

When something wears out, replace just that piece

Every Home Reserve cover, cushion and frame part is sold individually, so you never have to replace a whole sectional because of one worn or stained piece.

Frequently asked questions

Are Home Reserve covers machine washable? Essentials and Performance+ covers are: they come off and go in a standard home washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle with mild detergent, then hang to dry. Exclusive fabrics are not machine washable.

Can I put Home Reserve covers in the dryer? No. We recommend air drying. Dryer heat can shrink the fabric and affect the tailored fit.

How often should I wash my covers? Wash covers as they need it. Spot clean small spills as they happen, and machine wash for bigger messes or a seasonal refresh.

Are Home Reserve covers good for homes with pets? Yes. Removable covers, machine washable in Essentials and Performance+ fabrics, make pet hair, muddy paws and accidents easier to handle. Performance+ fabrics add liquid resistance and stain resistance.

Can I wash the seat cushions themselves? No. Only the covers are machine washable; spot clean foam cushions and let them dry completely.

What if a cover gets ruined? Replace just that cover. Replacement covers start at $35, and you can choose a new fabric if you'd like a change.

Can I order a different color cover later? Yes. Because covers are removable, you can change the look of your sectional by ordering new covers. Try $1 swatches first to see colors at home.
